In our latest Smile Study Discussion, Dr. Jason shared an insightful case study involving a young patient named Josie, whose dental concerns revolved around the delayed eruption and impaction of certain teeth.
Josie visited Dr. Jason with a perplexing dental issue. Despite her age, certain teeth had not yet erupted as expected, leading to noticeable spacing issues between her upper front teeth. This condition is often referred to as “impacted teeth” or “delayed eruption.” Upon her initial evaluation, Dr. Jason conducted a thorough examination, including taking X-rays, to get a clear picture of Josie’s dental structure. The x-rays revealed that her canine teeth were impacted, meaning they were stuck and unable to emerge properly. This impaction was causing the spacing issue between her upper front teeth.
As a result, Dr. Jason and his team crafted a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to Josie’s unique case. This plan involved several steps:
- Exposure of Impacted Canines: Due to the complexity of the case, an oral surgeon was brought in to surgically expose the impacted canine teeth. This procedure is important because it physically uncovers the teeth, allowing them to be guided into their correct positions.
- Removal of Baby Teeth: Alongside the exposure procedure, a few remaining baby teeth were extracted to make way for the emerging adult canines.
- Orthodontic Alignment: After the surgical procedures, orthodontic treatment played a crucial role. Braces were used to gradually guide the newly exposed canines into proper alignment with the rest of her teeth.
Josie’s treatment progressed smoothly, and the result was nothing short of remarkable. Thanks to the meticulous planning and collaborative efforts of Dr. Jason, the oral surgeon, and the orthodontic team, Josie’s impacted canines were successfully aligned. Her smile transformation was evident, leaving her with a radiant, glowing smile!
