Smile Study Discussions with Dr. Jason

Welcome back to another Smile Study Discussion with Dr. Jason where we’re diving deep into a fascinating case! Dr. Jason shared with us the journey of an eight-year-old patient named Mason, whose early orthodontic treatment transformed not just his smile, but also his confidence. Let’s take a closer look at Mason’s story and the steps taken to achieve his remarkable transformation!

Initial Concerns: The Beginning of Mason’s Journey

Mason first visited PDAO with his mother when he was experiencing social challenges at school due to the alignment of his front teeth. Overcrowding of teeth can be quite distressing for children, especially when it affects their self-esteem and social interactions. Mason’s mother hoped that early orthodontic intervention could help him feel more confident about his smile.

Early Phase of Treatment: Building Confidence

Dr. Jason evaluated Mason and determined that an early phase of orthodontic treatment would be beneficial for his condition. Not all cases require early intervention, but for Mason, it was essential for achieving the primary goal of aligning Mason’s front teeth and helping him feel more confident when smiling! The treatment took six to eight months, and by the end of this phase, Mason’s teeth were beautifully aligned, providing a significant boost to his self-esteem! After the early phase concluded, Mason was given a period of observation to ensure that his teeth remained stable and monitored for any new developments.

Second Phase of Treatment: Perfecting the Bite

Three years later, Mason returned to Dr. Jason’s office ready to begin the second phase of his orthodontic journey focused on correcting Mason’s bite, particularly addressing an overbite where the upper teeth protruded in front of the lower teeth. Such conditions, if left untreated, could lead to more significant dental issues later in life. Therefore, Dr. Jason and his team devised a comprehensive plan to correct Mason’s overbite. This second phase of treatment spanned a year to a year and a half, progressively aligning Mason’s jaws to ensure a perfect bite.

Celebrating the Final Results

The culmination of Mason’s treatment was nothing short of spectacular. His upper teeth alignment was flawless, the gum tissue’s health and alignment were in excellent condition, and importantly, the overbite was completely corrected. Mason now flaunts a confident, happy smile!
